What the estimate includes

It adds the standard allowance, child amounts and eligible housing costs. It deducts 55p for each £1 of earnings above any applicable work allowance. For eligible households with children, the monthly work allowance is £427 with housing support or £710 without it. Countable capital above £6,000 reduces the monthly estimate by £4.35 per £250 or part of £250. Capital over £16,000 normally rules out a claim. A redundancy lump sum can affect countable capital.
